Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

                                                                                     - John 11:25-26

There are over 40,000 words that Jesus said, recorded in the bible; if you take out the duplicates, we are left with close to 20,000. Why is it then that so few people truly understand the things Jesus did, said, and taught? This Easter we will be reflecting on what Jesus meant when he taught about the Resurrection, an act he himself would bring to life.

While Easter is an important celebration, it is only part of the story that plays out during what is called "The Passion" or Holy Week. Too ften, it is easy to focus on the celebration without thinking about the other events or reasons for the celebration. This year at Hughson UMC, we invite you to join us for Easter and one of our Holy Week services to gain a different perspective and understanding of what it means to journey with God in light of Easter and the Resurrection of Christ. We are offering four services. Please see the information below to plan your holy week journey.

The Sunday before Easter. On this day, Jesus entered Jerusalem for the final time before the crucifixion. The same people who shouted for him to be crucified praised God as he entered the City on a donkey.  We will commemorate this day with a service at our church at 10:30 am.

The Friday before Easter. On this day, Jesus is put on trial before Jewish and Roman courts and ultimately executed as a political revolutionary, despite their being no evidence to support this claim. We will commemorate this day with a service at our church at 5:00 pm.

The Thursday before Easter. On this day, Jesus celebrated the Passover with his disciples and then was betrayed and arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane. We will commemorate this day with a service at our church at 11:30 am

Easter Sunday. On this day, we celebrate the resurrection of Christ, which enables us to experience God's forgiveness and stands as proof that God has overcome sin and evil.  We will commemorate this day with a services at our church at 7:00 am and 10:30 am.
